STATIC SITEMAP — a stand-in for the sitemapXml Cloud Function.

firebase.json rewrites /sitemap.xml to the sitemapXml function, but
Hosting serves exact-match static content BEFORE it applies rewrites, so
while this file exists it is what /sitemap.xml returns and the function
  is never reached.

Why it exists: the project is on the Spark plan, so blogPost, rssXml and
sitemapXml cannot serve. /sitemap.xml was returning 503 to every crawler
that followed the `Sitemap:` line in robots.txt — the sitemap was
  unreachable rather than merely stale.

What is NOT here: the six /blog/{slug} post URLs. Those are rendered by
the blogPost function and currently return 503 too, and listing URLs that
answer 503 spends crawl budget and reports errors in Search Console. The
blog index itself is client-rendered from the database, so it is listed.

TO RESTORE THE DYNAMIC SITEMAP: re-enable the Blaze plan, deploy the
functions (firebase deploy, limited to functions), then DELETE THIS FILE
and deploy hosting again. The function's version includes every published
post and keeps its own lastmod dates. Leaving this file in place would
  silently shadow it.

(The deploy flag is spelled out rather than written with its two leading
hyphens because a double hyphen is illegal inside an XML comment and
would make this whole document unparseable.)

If this file outlives that plan, keep the dates below honest — a lastmod
that never changes is worth less than no lastmod at all.
